Wolfgang Stammberger

Wolfgang Stammberger (* July 14, 1920 in Coburg, † May 1, 1982 ) was a German politician (FDP, SPD later ). From 1961 to 1962 he was the Federal Minister of Justice and 1970-1978 Mayor of Coburg.

Life

Education and work

After graduation in 1939 Wolfgang Stammberger began studying law and political science, which he had in 1940 for war service, most recently as a reserve lieutenant, pause, and then finished by a prisoner of war in 1946 with the first as well as in 1949 with the second legal state examination. In 1948 his Doctorate in Law. with the work The right to compensation for assistance. Since 1949 he was admitted to the bar.

Party

From 1946 to 1964 he was a member of the FDP. Here he became involved first with the Young Democrats, the state chairman in Bavaria, he was from 1946 to 1948. On 3 June 1964 more than 18 months after his resignation as Minister, he resigned from the FDP and became a member of the SPD. He justified this step especially with the dwindling importance of the FDP, as the SPD was on the road to liberal People's Party. After he had fallen out with the council faction of the SPD and in 1978 was not set up for mayoral elections in Coburg, he left the SPD in the same year.

Member of Parliament

From 1953 to 1969 Wolfgang Stammberger was a member of the German Bundestag. He is drafted in 1953 as a directly elected delegates of the constituency Coburg and then always have the country list Bavaria in the Bundestag. He was from 1957 to 1961 Chairman of the Committee for Public Health; he was then the youngest reigning Committee chairman. On 3 June 1964, he joined the SPD parliamentary group.

Public offices

After the general election in 1961 he was appointed Minister of Justice in the run of Chancellor Konrad Adenauer government on 14 November 1961. During his tenure, the affair came to the appointment of Wolfgang Fraenkel to the Federal Attorney General and the Spiegel affair, in which he was illegally passed over by Defence Minister Franz Josef Strauss, and whose entourage he on November 19, 1962 together with the other FDP Federal ministers of his Office resigned.

From 1970 to 1978 he was Mayor of Coburg.

Private

Wolfgang Stammberger was married and had three children. His later official successor Sabine Leutheusser -Schnarrenberger is his niece. He was a member of the Federation of the Freemasons, his boxes are to the Frankish crown and Prometheus resident in Coburg and Bonn.
