Wolfgang Suschitzky

Wolfgang " Wolf" Suschitzky ( born August 29, 1912 in Vienna) is an Austrian- British cinematographer and photographer.

Life

Suschitzky was educated at the Graphic Arts Research Institute in Vienna and then worked as a bookseller and photographer. End of February 1934, he emigrated to London and earned his living first as a photographer.

In 1937 he began work as a camera assistant on documentaries for Paul Rotha production unit. After war broke out in 1939 classified as an enemy alien, he was allowed to work from 1942 as chief cameraman again for Rotha. In 1944 he was involved in the founding of the movie Cooperative DATA and turned for this company numerous industrial films. In 1950 he made ​​his feature film debut with the short thriller No Resting Place, but it was only in the 1960s Suschitzky was increasingly feature film jobs. The same time he continued to work as a photographer, shot commercials and TV series and also tried his hand as a book illustrator.

Suschitzky lives in London. His son is the cinematographer Peter Suschitzky (* 1940). His sister was the photographer and educator Edith Tudor - Hart ( 1908-1973 ).
