Wollmerath

Wollmerath is a municipality in the district Cochem-Zell, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality elms.

Geography

Wollmerath located eleven kilometers southeast of the city down in the foothills of the Nebentals Ueßbachs. The village comprises altitudes between 360 m above sea level. Sea level and 410 m above sea level. NN. Geographically, can the agricultural half of the township area in Südwestsaum the Eastern High Eifel almost entirely assigned to the Middle Üßbachtal, a section on the northwestern border already the Ueßbachbergland. History

Wollmerath was first mentioned in 1193. After the occupation of the left bank of the Rhine 1794/96 by French revolutionary troops, the place was French, 1815, the region and thus Wollmerath was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna. Since 1946 it has been part of Rhineland- Palatinate then newly founded.

Parish council

The local council in Wollmerath consists of six council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 by majority vote, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Attractions

  • Parish Church of St. Mary Magdalene with the grave plates of Ernst Carl Anton Joseph Freiherr von width Landsberg and his wife Maria Magdalena, née Steward of Rheinfelden, as well as a built by Balthasar King in 1749 organ.

  • The Wollmerather head belongs to the younger, quaternary, volcanoes and consists of welding slag, volcanic lapilli and ash deposits.
