Wolseley 4/44

Wolseley 4/44 (1955)

The car Wolseley 4/44 was originally constructed by the Nuffield Group, but when he was brought out in 1953, Wolseley was part of the BMC. The car looked like in much of the MG Magnette ZA, which came out later this year.

Unlike the MG had the 4/44 a XPAW version of XPAG engine with 1250 cc capacity, which was known from the later MG T- series, but with less power, since only a single carburetor. He made 46 bhp (34 kW) at 4800 min -1. The four-speed gearbox had steering wheel gearshift.

The car had a self-supporting structure and independent suspension, front and rear coil springs on to a driven rigid axle.

The 4/44 was intended for the upscale market segment and well equipped with wood-paneled dashboard, leather seats and the traditional Wolseley grille with illuminated emblem, but was with £ 997, - in the UK market quite expensive.

A copy that has been tested by the magazine The Motor, reached a top speed of 117 km / h and acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 29.9 sec Fuel consumption was 10.4 ltr./100 km.

In 1956, the 4/44 after 29,845 copies replaced by the similar-looking 15/50.
