Womack & Womack

Womack & Womack was an American pop music duo consisting of the married couple Linda (* 1953) and Cecil Womack ( born September 25, 1947 in Cleveland, Ohio; † February 1, 2013 in South Africa).

Cecil Womack, younger brother of Bobby Womack, met his future wife Linda already know in 1961 when she was just eight years old. She was the daughter of Sam Cooke, who had then just taken Cecil and Bobby Womack and their Curtis, Harry and Cedric brothers as The Valentinos for his own label.

Both their love story as well as their collaboration began in the early 1970s, when Linda and Cecil Womack was hired by the famous Philly Soul label Philadelphia International Records as a songwriter team. They wrote, among other songs for The O'Jays, Patti LaBelle and Teddy Pendergrass. After her marriage in 1975 she began to work on its own concept. The first result was the LP Love Wars (1984 ), which was very well received, especially in England. Womack & Womack fused traditional styles of black music culture as gospel and rhythm 'n blues with white Kommerzpop. The albums MUSC Man ( 1985) and Star Bright ( 1986), with which they further refined their style continuously. However, critics complained the technical overproduction.

1988 that Womack & Womack with the critically acclaimed as a masterpiece LP Conscience ( D # 5, UK # 4), as well as hit singles Teardrops ( D # 2, UK # 3) and Celebrate The World ( D # 22, UK # 19) their celebrate the greatest successes. In its native U.S., however, their records found little favor. 1991 appeared the album Family Spirit, could not repeat the success of Conscience and was reviled by critics as " idea -less Hochglanzpop ". Last appeared in 1993, the album Transformation To The House Of Zekkariyas. The duo later settled in Africa.
