Wong Peng Soon

Wong Peng Soon, MBE (Chinese黄秉璇, Pinyin Huang Bǐngxuán ) ( born February 1918 in Johor Bahru, † 22 May 1996 in Singapore ) was a badminton player from Singapore. Wong was one of the greatest badminton player to switch between 1940 and 1960.

Career

Wong Peng Soon won with the Malaysian team the first edition of the World Championship for Men teams, the. Thomas Cup in season 1948/49,

For the finale, he went with his seven teammates Chan Kon Leong, Law Teik Hock, Teoh Seng Khoon, Ooi Teik Hock, Yeoh Teck Chye, Lim Kee Fong, Ong Poh Lim and the nichtspielendem Captain Lim Chuan Geok in December 1948 on a 25 - day boat trip to the United Kingdom, where the Malays were first confronted with a European winter. In the semi final against the United States Wong Peng Soon Martin Mendez defeated in three sets. His second single, he lost in a duel of the best badminton players of that time against Dave Freeman clearly with 4:15 and 1:15. For the final against Denmark Wong Peng Soon could not compete due to an injury and was replaced by Law Teik Hock.

1952 Wong Peng Soon was again a member of the Malaysian Thomas Cup team and contributed two individual victories in the final against the United States for a successful title defense at. Three years later he was playing as captain once more support for his team during the third Malaysia's success in the Thomas Cup in series.

Also available as single player Wong Peng Soon was extremely successful. In 1950 he became the first Asian to All England. 1951, 1952 and 1955, he was again victorious. The Malaysian Open, he won eight times from 1940 to 1953, and in Denmark as it was in 1950 in the men's singles successfully.
