Wood County (Wisconsin)

The Wood County is a county located in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. In 2010, the County had 74 749 inhabitants and a population density of 36.4 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Wisconsin Rapids.

Geography

The County is located roughly at the geographical center of Wisconsin and has an area of 2096 square kilometers, of which 43 square kilometers are water surface.

The southeast of the county is drained by the Wisconsin River, a left tributary of the Mississippi.

History

The Wood County was formed in 1856 from portions of Portage County. It was named after Joseph Wood, a U.S. judge and politician.

Population

According to the census in 2010, lived in Wood County 74 749 people in 32 012 households. The population density was 36.4 inhabitants per square kilometer. In the 32 012 households lived statistically 2.3 persons each.

The racial the population was composed of 95.6 percent white, 0.7 percent African American, 0.9 percent Native American, 1.9 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 0.9 percent were descended from two or more races. Regardless of ethnicity were 2.4 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

22.2 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 60.1 percent were between 18 and 64 and 17.7 percent were 65 years or older. 50.7 percent of the population was female.

The median income for a household was $ 46,999. The per capita income was $ 25,779. 10.1 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
