Woodford County (Kentucky)
Woodford County is a county located in the state of Kentucky in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Versailles. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.
Geography
The County is located north-east of the geographic center of Kentucky and has an area of 497 square kilometers, of which three square miles are water. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Franklin County, Scott County, Fayette County, Jessamine County, Mercer County and Anderson County.
History
Woodford County was formed on November 2, 1788 from parts of Fayette County. It was named for General William Woodford, who died during the American Revolutionary War prisoner of the British.
In Woodford is Kentucky's oldest, founded in 1812, Kentucky Bourbon distillery Labrot & Graham Distillery, since 2003 renamed Woodford Reserve Distillery.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Woodford County 23,208 people in 8,893 households and 6,643 families. The population density was 47 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 92.08 percent White, 5.41 percent African American, 0.13 percent Native American, 0.31 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 1.13 percent from other races groups; 0.93 percent were descended from two or more races. 2.99 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 8,893 households out of which 35.0 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 61.9 percent were married couples living together, 9.7 percent were single mothers, 25.3 percent were non-families, 21.0 percent of all households and 7.5 percent had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.57 and the average family size was 2.99.
Based on the county the population was spread from 25.4 percent population under 18 years, 7.9 percent between 18 and 24 years, 31.2 percent between 25 and 44 years, 25.1 percent between 45 and 64 years and 10.4 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 93.0 males. For every 100 females aged 18 years old or over, there were 91.2 men statistically.
The median income for a household was $ 49,491, and the median income for a family was $ 58,218. Males had a median income of $ 39,284, women $ 27,972. The per capita income was $ 22,839. 5.2 percent of families and 7.3 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. Of these, 8.0 percent were children or adolescents under age 18 and 13.1 percent of those 65 years.
