Woodford County (Kentucky)

Woodford County is a county located in the state of Kentucky in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Versailles. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Geography

The County is located north-east of the geographic center of Kentucky and has an area of 497 square kilometers, of which three square miles are water. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Franklin County, Scott County, Fayette County, Jessamine County, Mercer County and Anderson County.

History

Woodford County was formed on November 2, 1788 from parts of Fayette County. It was named for General William Woodford, who died during the American Revolutionary War prisoner of the British.

In Woodford is Kentucky's oldest, founded in 1812, Kentucky Bourbon distillery Labrot & Graham Distillery, since 2003 renamed Woodford Reserve Distillery.
