Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution ( WHOI ) is an oceanographic research institution in Woods Hole, Massachusetts.

It awards degrees in collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution was founded in 1930 is to be distinguished from the separate Marine Biological Laboratory ( Marine Biological Laboratory), also located in Woods Hole.

The first research vessel Atlantis of the WHOI was the inspiration for the space shuttle Atlantis.
