Woodson County, Kansas
Woodson County is a county located in the state of Kansas in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Yates Center. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.
Geography
The County is located in the central south-west of Kansas and has an area of 1309 square kilometers, of which 13 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Coffey County, Anderson County, Allen County, Neosho County, Wilson County and Greenwood County.
History
Woodson County was formed in 1855 and is among the first 33 counties that were formed by the first territorial administration. It was named after Daniel Woodson, a governor of the Kansas territory.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Woodson County 3788 people in 1642 households and 1052 families in Woodson County. The population density was 3 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 96.96 percent White, 0.82 percent African American, 0.87 percent Native American, 0.05 percent Asian, and 0.24 percent from other races; 1.06 per cent were descended from two or more races. 1.37 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 1642 households out of which 25.8 percent of children under 18 who lived with them. 53.8 percent were married couples living together, 7.4 percent were single mothers and 35.9 percent were non-families. 33.3 percent of all households were single-person households and 19.4 percent living alone who is 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.24 and the average family size was 2.83 persons.
21.7 percent of the population were under 18 years old. 7.4 percent 18 to 24 years 22.1 percent between 25 and 44, 23.9 percent between 45 and 64 years, and 24.8 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 44 years. For every 100 females there were 96.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, 96.8 males.
The median income for a household was $ 25,335, and the median income for a family was $ 31,369. Males have a median income of $ 23,950, women $ 16,135. The per capita income was $ 14,283. 10.2 percent of families and 13.2 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
