Worcester Art Museum

The Worcester Art Museum is an art museum in Worcester, Massachusetts.

History

The museum was founded by the wealthy Senator Stephen Salisbury III and opened in 1898. 1901 the museum received more than 3,000 Japanese prints by Bancroft Davis. Using the first professional director, Philip J. Gentner, to make the museum's collection to one of the most respected in the country succeeded. Current director is James A. Welu.

Works

The Worcester Art Museum is now home to over 35,000 works from many eras and cultures. Among the most famous exhibits include El Greco by Rembrandt van Rijn and The Brooding Woman by Paul Gauguin.
