Worcester Cathedral

Worcester Cathedral, officially: " The Cathedral Church of Christ and The Blessed Mary the Virgin ", is a church in Worcester, England.

History

The construction was started in 1084. From this first construction only the first four ships of the crypt are preserved.

1218 was the consecration of retro choir and Lady Chapel. 1224 began the construction of the choir and eastern transept. The relationship with the choir of Beverley is clear: four perfect shaped pillars with provided services, rich stepped triforium and arcades. Here the tomb of King John is without land (died 1216 ) from the period around 1225 bis 1230. The nave was built in 1317-1327, the vault of the central nave were finished in 1377. The crossing tower followed in the years 1358-1374. In the western part of the nave the polls of British Prime Minister Stanley Baldwin and his wife are buried.

The chapter house from the period around 1125 was originally about. In the second half of the 14th century it was encased Gothic. The Lady Chapel was totally renovated in 1855. The northern part of the cloister was completed in 1374, the grounds were only 1438th

Equipment

The organ was built by Kenneth Tickell organ building company in an existing organ case, 2008. The instrument has 57 registers, four manuals and pedal. The tracker action are electric.
