Worcester IceCats

The Worcester IceCats were an American ice hockey team from Worcester, Massachusetts, which played in the American Hockey League.

History

The IceCats were founded in 1994 when Roy Boe - owner of the New York Islanders - the franchise of the Springfield Indians of the AHL acquired and the team moved to Worcester. The team started the season with a short free-agent players, but without being a farm team of the NHL team. Shortly before the end of the season, a contract with the St. Louis Blues was closed by Boe and the head coach and general manager Jim Roberts.

In 1998, the Peoria Rivermen of the East Coast Hockey League farm team of the IceCats. In the 2000 /01 season Roy Boe sold the team to the St. Louis Blues, which in turn IceCats sold on November 9, 2004 to the owner of the Peoria Rivermen. In the season 2005/06 came from the new owner moved the franchise finally to Peoria to where the team plays today.

As the successor club in Worcester, the Worcester Sharks in the AHL go hunting for points.
