Workers' Youth League (Norway)

Ern work Ungdomsfylking (AUF) is the youth organization of the Social Democratic Party of Norway Arbeiderpartiet. It is the largest political youth organization in Norway.

History

The first social democratic youth organization in Norway was founded in 1903, Norges Sosialdemokratiske Ungdomsforbund, who renamed in 1921 in Norges Kommunistiske Ungdomsforbund. As in 1923, Norges Kommunistiske Parti seceded, the NKU of the new party joined almost closed. In the Arbeiderpartiet then the new youth organization Venstrekommunistisk Ungdomsfylkning was founded.

1927 was the party Norges Socialdemokratiske Arbeiderparti on the Arbeiderpartiet. With the youth organization of the party, the Norges Sosialistiske Ungdomsforbund, formed from the Venstrekommunistisk Ungdomsfylkning the UP.

1930, the UP a total of 14,000 members in 275 groups, compared to the 80,000 of the Workers' Party. By 1933 the membership had grown to 21,000 in 410 groups. Within the party, the TO was on the left wing, and was the parliamentary democracy with great skepticism about. In the election campaign of 1936, the UP played an important role for the Labour Party. They organized numerous youth meeting, presented theater troupes on their feet, and produced a choice newspaper in the 100,000 - circulation.

On July 22, 2011, in an attack on the island of Utøya with firearms at a youth camp of the AT least 69 people, mostly teenagers, were killed.

Known members

The later Norwegian Prime Minister Trygve Bratteli officiated from 1945 to 1946 as chairman of the UP.

Willy Brandt was ON - member, after he had emigrated to Norway in 1933.

The later Prime Reiulf Steen officiated from 1961 to 1964 as UP chairman.

From 1971 to 1973, the subsequent foreign and Verteidigungsmininister Bjørn Tore Godal had held the UP presidency.

From 1975 to 1977, Sissel Marie Rønbeck was chairman of the UP.

Thorbjørn Jagland, Prime Minister from 1996 to 1997 and today the Council of Europe Secretary General, was from 1977 to 1981 UP Chairman.

The Norwegian Minister of Finance Sigbjørn Johnsen was 1975-1977 Vice - Chairman ON.

The Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg was 1985-1989 ON - Chairman, and before that from 1983 to 1985 vice-chairman.

The current Norwegian Minister of Trade Trond Giske was 1992-1996 ON - Chairman.

From 1996 to 2000, the current Norwegian Minister of Labour Anniken Huitfeldt ON - Chairman, previously deputy chairman from 1994 to 1996.
