Workers Film and Photo League

The Workers Film and Photo League ( WFPL ) was an organization in the cultural sector in the United States, with links to the Friends of Soviet Russia and thus to the International Workers Aid Willi Miinzenberg.

History

From 1920 to 1930 produced the WFPL documentation of workers' strikes and political activities, including through the " Passaic Textile Strike ," the " Gastonia Textile Strike " and the " National Miners Union Strike " from 1931 to 1932.

Since the WFPL was a cultural organization of the Communist Party USA, its newsreels were generally not shown in theaters, but within the party or at events of " Trade Union Unity League ".

1933, the word " Workers " from the name of the organization was taken, which thus became the " Film and Photo League ." The Soviet department of "WE " 1935 was abolished. Although the " FPL " survived another year, then broke up but. The photographers organized in the Photo League and the filmmakers in the Frontier Film Group. In 1934 had some filmmakers leave the FPHL and Nykino founded, which existed until 1937. Other former WFPhL members founded their own production company.
