World Alliance of Reformed Churches

World Alliance of Reformed based in Geneva was an international community of 215 Reformed churches with 75 million members in 107 countries, whose roots up to the John Calvin, John Knox, Ulrich Zwingli, and many others mentioned Reformation in the 16th century as well as on previous reform movements of Jan Hus and Peter Valdes go back. Most of them are now in the southern hemisphere and testify the gospel there. Many of them belong to their respective countries for religious minority.

Middle of the 19th century formed the Reformed only three countries a majority, in Switzerland, the Netherlands and Scotland. A strong minority existed in Hungary.

World Alliance of Reformed built in 1970 in Nairobi as a merger of a Presbyterian founded in 1875 and founded in 1891 a Congregational world organization. The last General Assembly found in 1982 in Ottawa, in 1989 in Seoul, 1997 in Debrecen and 2004 in Accra instead.

Secretary-General ( Secretary -General ) was last Dr. Setri Nyomi, president of the American theologian Rev. Dr. Clifton Kirkpatrick of the Presbyterian Church (USA). In the office in Geneva existed alongside the General Secretariat of four departments: Department of Theology; Department of cooperation and witness; Department of partnership between women and men; Finance Department; also the Communications Office and the project " mission in unity " ( in cooperation with the John Knox International Reformed Centre).

Governing body was the Executive Committee, to that of Germany Dr. Peter Bukowski ( Reformed Alliance ) belonged.

The Alliance has teamed up on 18 June 2010 at Calvin College in Grand Rapids (Michigan ) and the Reformed Ecumenical Council ( 12 million members in 25 countries ) to the World Communion of Reformed Churches.
