World Blood Donor Day

World Blood Donor Day (World Blood Donor Day, in Germany also called Weltblutspendertag ) is celebrated on June 14, the birthday of Karl Landsteiner ( 1868-1943 ), the discoverer of blood groups.

Four international organizations working worldwide to promote safe blood on the basis of voluntary and unpaid blood donations, have proclaimed the day in 2004: the World Health Organization (WHO ), the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies ( IFRC ), the International Society for Transfusion Medicine ( ISBT ) and the International Federation of blood donor Organizations ( FIODS ).
