World Bowl

The World Bowl was the final game of the American football NFL Europe. He was known as the European counterpart to the Super Bowl of the National Football League ( NFL).

The name originates from the first season of 1991 NFLE predecessor World League of American Football ( WLAF ), in which teams were represented and provided for later several continents.

The first World Bowl was held in 1991 in the previously chosen to London's Wembley Stadium. The local London Monarchs qualified for and won the game and the actual World Bowl trophy, a 18.6 kg heavy globe of glass. In 1992, Montreal was previously determined as the venue. The home team was able to this time not qualified, so that supporters of the participating U.S. team had relatively long journeys.

After the restriction to European teams in 1995 and renamed as National Football League Europe 1998, the name World Bowl was retained. The venue was the home of the highest ranked team in the first half of the season now has at times been selected. This was thus established as a host, even if the second half of the season less successful. Starting in 1998, the award was again regulated differently.

After 2005, the first World Bowl played in consecutive years in the same place in 2006, in Düsseldorf's LTU arena. Since 2002 therefore held four of five finals in the home stadium of the Rhein Fire, who had to move temporarily because of construction work.

As competition with the NFL, there were in 1974 and 1975, a World Football League, whose only final on December 5, 1974 and was named World Bowl. The Birmingham Americans defeated the Florida Blazers with 22:21.

The World Bowls were called to 2000 with the year, and only then as the Super Bowl officially numbered with Roman numerals. The official name was 2005-2007 Yello Strom World Bowl.

The Yello Strom World Bowl XV took place on 23 June 2007 in Frankfurt's Commerzbank-Arena, home of the Frankfurt Galaxy. With 37:28 points, the Hamburg Sea Devils prevailed against the Frankfurt Galaxy and won so at their first finals the last World Bowl.
