World Chess Championship 1935

The World Chess Championship 1935 was the 15th battle for the world title in chess. From October 3 to December 15, 1935 contributed defending champion Alexander Alekhine and his challenger Max Euwe in 13 cities in the Netherlands from 30 games, after which Max Euwe was clear with 15,5:14,5 points as the new world champion. Two years later, however, Euwe lost his title in the World Chess Championship 1937 9,5:15,5 points back to Alekhine.

Prehistory

In the winter of 1933/34, decided to challenge to a duel for the championship Max Euwe, the world chess champion Alexander Alekhine. For this purpose, was founded by a confidant Euwes the National Nederlandsche Comité Wereldkampioenschap the links, which should primarily raise money for the challenge. Even before the duel with Bogolyubov Alekhine won the challenge Euwes, in case of victory against Bogolyubov against Euwe to compete for the world championship title.

On 28 May 1935 contract was signed between Euwe and Alekhine, regulated the conditions of the world championship. On October 2, the duel began after the opening by the Minister of Education, Arts and Science Jan Rudolph Slotemaker de Bruine. The first train was run from Amsterdam mayor.

Course

Alekhine went first in the lead and seemed the world title sure to defend, as Euwe caught up by and by the score. Euwe won consecutively in the same variant of the Slav Queen's Gambit both the 20th game with White and the 21 game with black. Special recognition gained by Euwe won 26 game, the so-called Pearl of Zandvoort. For the last game over two thousand people gathered at the venue, hundreds more waited in spite of a heavy snow storm in front of the building. Again, hundreds of people had gathered in newsrooms where journalists the traits analyzed at the demonstration board.
