Qualification process

In the years 2001 to 2004, the last two of the tournament descended into a B group and were replaced by the first two of this group.

In force since 2008 rules of the World Curling Federation, there is instead a qualification process according to the three zones: the Americas, Europe and the Pacific. Always qualified are the two teams from the host country.

From Europe, each of the five most successful teams of the previous year ( another team from the same country or ) take part. The other European teams compete in the Junior Curling Challenge for the opportunity to participate at the Junior World Championship. If this is played in North or South America, the two best teams in the Challenge Tournament, otherwise only the winners will qualify.

In the zone of the Americas a team qualify automatically, either as a host or when the championships take place outside of America, the most successful team of the previous year. In addition, another starting place is awarded to the other team last year, or the winner of a challenge tournament, if there is a challenger.

From the Pacific zone the winner of the Junior Curling Championship Pacific second-placed team takes part, or, if the Junior World Cup in the country of the Pacific Master takes place.
