World Malaria Day

The World Malaria Day on April 25, pays tribute to the global fight against malaria. The disease threatens more than 3 billion people; 2010, there were an estimated 216 million illnesses and 655,000 deaths from malaria.

The commemoration was introduced in 2001 as Africa Malaria Day, a year after 44 African countries had signed the Abuja Declaration. The World Health Assembly decided in 2007 World Malaria Day.
