World Oceans Day
The day of the sea has its origin in the Earth Summit on 8 June 1992 in Rio de Janeiro. Since 2009, June 8th is celebrated as the Day of the Sea of the United Nations. The oceans are seen as important for food security, health and survival of all life, for the environment and as a critical part of the biosphere. The purpose is therefore to gain attention for the current challenges in the context of the oceans around the world.
