World Organisation Against Torture

The World Organisation Against Torture ( OMCT, from the French organization Mondiale contre la Torture, English World Organisation Against Torture ), founded in 1986 in Geneva, is an international alliance of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) dedicated to the fight against torture, summary executions, enforced disappearances under devote violence and other forms of human rights violations. She belongs with Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch of the most influential NGOs and plays an active role in the UN Human Rights Treaty Bodies and when working in Geneva UN Human Rights Council.

The headquarters of the organization is located in Geneva.

Activities

  • Public denunciation of torture and other human rights violations on the basis of information from members of their network (297 NGOs in 92 countries ) depends OMCT called urgent appeals ( urgent appeals ) to reach at governmental and intergovernmental institutions, non-governmental bodies and interest groups.
  • Participation in UN organisms in the context of preventive measures against torture and human rights violations.
  • Direct medical, legal and social assistance to victims.
