World Organization of Workers

The World Organization of Workers ( WOW) is an international trade union federation of national unions, whose goal is the preservation and promotion of workers' interests. WOW is located in Brussels ( Belgium).

WOW is the successor organization of the World Federation of employees (WBA, World Federation of Clerical Workers, WFCW ), which was established in September 1921 in Luxembourg.

That was until October 31, 2006 Member of the World Confederation of Labour (WCL; World Confederation of Labour, WCL ). After the WCL dissolved, to be together with the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions (ICFTU, International Confederation of Free Trade Unions, ICFTU ) to the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC, International Trade Union Confederation, ITUC ) to merge the WVA decided as an autonomous, independent international federation under the working name World Organization of Workers continue to work until the next Congress.

The new name World Organization of Workers was finally decided in the context of the first WOW Congress to Malta on 8 November 2008.

The WOW currently has 1.3 million members and unites a total of 130 trade unions from over 60 countries.

President of WOW is Roel Rotshuizen (CNV Dienstenbond / Netherlands).
