World Standards Cooperation

The World Standards Cooperation (WSC ) is a working group of three global organizations of standardization. The IEC, ISO and ITU created the WSC in 2001 to strengthen and promote the voluntary, founded on consensus system of standardization.

From the WSC the common precaution has been prepared to call for early detection of patents on the first page of any draft standards, notify affected patents. To refuse to issue licenses or only to excessive price, is contrary to the objectives of standardization.

The Chair and the Secretariat of the WSC accepts the principle of rotation following a year a different member organization. The activities include the organizing of workshops.

The WSC calls a year from 14 October to World Standards Day to recognize the contributors to the voluntary technical agreements that are published as international standards.

Before there was the WSC, the World Standards Day was an initiative of the IEC and the ISO. Since there is the cooperation with the ITU, the United Nations is involved through them. The IEC and the ISO are private organizations.
