Wound dehiscence

Dehiscence refers to a rising or moving apart of related tissue structures. It can be either by connective tissue or supporting tissue. With a gaping wound edges of a surgical suture is called dehiscence.

One example is the burst abdomen after abdominal surgery. Often caused by mechanical effects. Dehiscent are also the abdominal muscles during physiological umbilical hernia.
