WOW Alliance

WOW is an international strategic airline alliance of cargo airlines. Currently, Singapore Airlines Cargo and SAS Cargo are the only remaining members.

History

WOW was established in April 2000 under the name New Global Cargo, Lufthansa Cargo, Singapore Airlines Cargo and SAS Cargo. The later name WOW is not an abbreviation, but is intended to reflect dynamism and innovation. Under the umbrella of WOW common freight capacities are marketed, for example. Since 1 October 2001, the products of the three founding airlines were fully integrated. In July 2002, joined JAL Cargo Alliance.

In March 2008, the then CEO of Lufthansa Cargo Carsten Spohr announced that the airline will reduce its activities in the WOW alliance. The collaboration with the WOW partners had become superfluous, since the route networks of the individual companies are now close enough. In addition, the cargo alliance have never worked as good as the role model Star Alliance in the passenger area. Blame it is at least missing reservation and customer loyalty programs. Lufthansa Cargo announced plans to remove the WOW - WOW logo and livery of the Group's McDonnell Douglas MD -11 as part of the scheduled maintenance. 2009 left Lufthansa Cargo officially the alliance. 2010 retired from JAL Cargo also because Japan Airlines ceased freight traffic as part of its restructuring.

Currently operates only Singapore Airlines Cargo own cargo planes, SAS Cargo markets only free freight capacity in passenger aircraft, the SAS Group.
