Wrangel Palace

The Wrangelsche palace is a building on the island Riddarholmen near Stockholm's Old Town. Since 1756 the Svea hovrätt is housed in the building.

The southern round tower dates from the thirties of the 16th century and belonged to a fortification, which was to create King Gustav Vasa. Around 1630 was a palace. 1652-1670 by the architect Nicodemus Tessin the Elder was developed for the Field Marshal Carl Gustav Wrangel. Further modifications were necessary after a fire in 1693. In 1697, the palace was briefly the seat of the royal family after the old castle " Tre Kronor " was burned down. After another fire in Wrangel Palace, it was built in 1802 by CG Gjörwell changed. Extensive restoration and renovation work took place 1948-1950 and 1985.

In the 17th century, the building was one of the biggest private palaces of Stockholm and had a yard in several stages. Today's smooth walls originate mainly from the reconstruction of the Year 1802. Previous production of richly decorated facade still exist towards the sandstone portal and a few elements to the farm. At the last restoration of the building again got its original white plaster with gray details.
