Wrestling at the 1904 Summer Olympics

In the III. Olympics 1904 in St. Louis seven competitions were held in rings. The events on 14 and 15 October took place on the infield of the stadium Francis Field.

Has wrestled for the first time in free style after 1896 in Athens, the Greek-Roman style had come to the application and 1900 rings was missing in Paris in the program. Although the 42 participating Ringer Americans were without exception, the competitions are still regarded as olympic, because basically would have been eligible from all countries amateurs. The fights usually lasted six minutes. Fell into this time no decision was followed by a three-minute limit ( in the final six minutes ). Third place was automatically in each case the one who had lost in the first preliminary round against the eventual Olympic champion.
