Writtle is a village in the English county of Essex and is located about three kilometers west of Chelmsford. The village is mentioned in the Domesday Book and was once the site of a royal hunting lodge. The church dates from the time of the Normans. In 1302 there married the later Scottish King Robert the Bruce, his second wife Elizabeth de Burgh.
