Wu Cheng'en

Wu Cheng'en (Chinese吴承恩, Pinyin Wú Cheng'en; * in 1500 in Huai'an in Jiangsu Province, China; † around 1582), style name (zi ) Ruzhong (汝 忠), was a Chinese novelist and poet of the Ming Dynasty. He studied more than ten years at the University of Nanjing.

His novel Journey to the West about a monk who travels through the mountains of the northwestern province of Xinjiang is one of the most popular classical stories in China and in several versions translated into German. The Japanese manga series Dragonball is based on the story.
