Wuchang Uprising

The Wuchang Uprising (Chinese武昌 起义, Pinyin Wǔchāng qǐyì ) formed after a long series of unsuccessful uprisings after the beginning of the Chinese year of Xinhai (~ 1911) named Xinhai Revolution and thus the beginning of the Republican era China. On October 10, 1911, arrived in the capital of the Chinese province of Hubei to the Wuchang Uprising, which was directed against the imperial family. He was held under the military leadership of Li Yuan Hong. After 15 provinces had declared their independence from the Qing government in less than two months, the imperial constitution announced in November 1911. In the same month gathered in Wuchang delegates from the newly independent provinces to discuss the formation of a central government.

The former seat of the military government during the revolt of Wuchang (武昌 起义 军 政府 旧址, Wǔchāng qǐyì jūnzhèngfǔ jiùzhǐ ) in Wuhan since 1961 is on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China ( 1-7).

The October 10 as the date of start of the uprising, more commonly known as Double Tenth (双 十 节, Shuāngshíjié ) and designated by十 十, double numeral for 10, symbolizes, today is National Day of the Republic of China.
