Wülflingen Castle

The Wülflingen Castle is a castle in the city of Winterthur in the canton of Zurich. It lies on the eastern edge of the village today eingemeindeten Wülflingen.

History

The castle was built in 1644 by Hans Hartmann Escher from lynx. He was owner of the domain Wülflingen book and lived since 1634 at the Castle Alt- Wülflingen. 1655 he moved to the new castle Wülflingen. 1677 sold Hartmann Escher's daughter Margareta von Meiss ( 1636-1678 ), the tavern, the butcher and the brick hut at the Heinrich Ziegler Ringger of Hauptwil.

After the death of his mother in 1682, the siblings share the heritage and Hans Hartmann Meiss became the sole owner of the domain Wülflingen book. From 1711 to 1717 he served as bailiff on the Kyburg. In 1730, the northern extension has been built. 1734 took over Brigadier Salomon Hirzel, the son of Hartmann Meiss, the castle and the rule by buying out the other heirs.

After the death of his father in 1755, the three sons inherited the rule Wülflingen. After disputes took over the middle son, Colonel Salomon Hirzel (1719-1791), the government and paid his brothers. 1767 Hirzel sold the castle together with Baumgarten and brick cottage with Schultheiss John Sulzer. In the same year, the castle was renovated. 1796 inherited the granddaughter of the school Theissen, Anna -Maria Sulzer, the castle estate. 1832 David Sulzer was first recorded in the business directory and operator of a wine-shop in the castle. 1846, Heinrich Müller ( 1510-1878 ), owner of the castle. He was married to Helene Sulzer (1808-1876), the daughter of David and Anna -Maria Sulzer. 1880 inherited David Friedrich Müller- Bodmer the castle and led a restaurant.

1906 acquired the Zurich company A. Klingler -Huber for speculative purposes, the castle and outbuildings; planned was a sale of parts of its interior. In the same year, the committee established to preserve the castle. The "Cooperative Schloss Wülflingen " bought it at a price of CHF 85'000 together with the Gottfried Keller Foundation, which contributed to CHF 35'000. The equipment of the courtroom, the Herrenstube and the Upper dining room is still owned by the Foundation.

1907-08 were the court room, the master bedroom and the halls renovated. 1910, the city acquired Winterthur region, to protect it from imminent redevelopment. The Cooperative entered the Wülflingen 1911 lock from the city of Winterthur and broke up. The Gottfried Keller Foundation was co-owner. 1948, the paintings were restored in the courtroom. In 1957 the castle was again renovated and restored the paintings in the courtroom. Hospitality Services and Agriculture were separated.

With Government decision of the Canton of Zurich on 30 September 1980, the castle was taken with Wülflingen wash house and barns in the list of art and cultural objects of historical protection on local importance of the city, Winterthur. 2001 and 2002 were facades and roof renovation. The last renovation took place in 2007/2008 and cost 8 million francs. Today the castle is a fine dining restaurant.
