Wulkow

Wulkow was a municipality in the district Jerichower Land, Saxony -Anhalt. She was a member of the administrative community Elbe- Stremme - Fiener, which had its headquarters in the city Genthin.

Until December 31, 2009 Wulkow was an independent municipality, which consisted of the districts Großwulkow, High Bellin and Kleinwulkow as well as the living quarters Altbellin, block dam and Have Mark. January 1, 2010 Wulkow was dissolved and amalgamated the districts in the city Jerichow. In the municipality Wulkows lived on 33.48 km ² Population 377 (31 December 2008 ).

History

Großwulkow was first mentioned in 1144 as Wolkowe documented in the foundation charter of the monastery Jerichow.

Kleinwulkow was founded by ousted from Großwulkow Slavs. The first mention in 1144 as " Slavica Wulkowe " in the foundation charter of the monastery Jerichow.

In 1950, the two previously independent communities was summarized Großwulkow and Kleinwulkow to the municipality Wulkow. In 1974, the congregation High Bellin was incorporated.

Coat of arms and flag

The coat of arms was designed by the Magdeburg Kommunalheraldiker Jörg Mantzsch and the approval was granted on 21 November 2008 by the county.

The colors of Wulkow are: Silver ( White ) - Blue.

The flag is white - blue ( 1:1) striped ( cross- shape: strips horizontally extending, longitudinal shape: strip running vertically ) and centrally occupied with the arms.

The former municipalities Großwulkow, High Bellin and Kleinwulkow resulted in their community Siegel ever had a similar coat of arms seal image. Attractions

  • The Romanesque brick church in Großwulkow was built around 1170 and was first mentioned in 1172 in a charter of Archbishop Wichmann of Magdeburg. Triumphal Cross and baptism are from about 1160, the bell from about 1200 and the other interiors from the 18th century. The church is a station on the Romantic Road today.
  • Romanesque brick church in Kleinwulkow ( built around 1200 as a daughter church to Großwulkow, tower 1784 set up ). Since 1985 the church was restored in several steps.
  • Bronze Age burial mound from about 1500 BC to 117 grave hills ( near Have Mark ).
  • Miniature castle in Kleinwulkow. Castle -like complex consisting of 2 each 5 meter high granite stone towers surrounded by a ~ 2 meter high wall. The building is privately owned, but can be visited.

At the restoration of the churches in Großwulkow Kleinwulkow and the German Foundation for Monument Protection was involved.

Culture

The History Circle & puppet stage in the parish Wulkow / Wust ( GuM ) cares except the Romanesque village churches in wholesale and Kleinwulkow also about in the districts Wust, Melkow and Sydow the community Wust and the early Gothic village church in Wust - Briest, the marionette theater houses. 2006 was awarded the silver medal of the GuM e by the Tourism Saxony-Anhalt V. awarded Romanesque price.
