The station Wuppertal- Barmen is a passenger station in Wuppertal District Oberbarmen. With four linked railway tracks it has long been an important railway junction. Today there branches, only the railway line Wuppertal -Solingen - Oberbarmen on the main route leading through the station Wuppertal, Dortmund.
History
The station was opened on October 9, 1847 by the Bergisch- Märkische Railway Company under the name Barmen- Rittershausen. In 1930 it was renamed in Wuppertal- Barmen.
Until 1910, was located between the railway tracks and the road Rosenau a railway depot, which was moved to Wuppertal-Langerfeld/Schwelm. During World War II the station and the station building was badly damaged. After a partial demolition by the German Federal Railroad after the Second World War took place in the 80s during the opening of S8, the transformation of the station. Today there is a cuboid with a purpose built stand, a pastry shop and a McDonald's restaurant.
In the prime of his life there was in addition to the continuous rail line Elberfeld- Dortmund railway triangle to the railway line to Opladen or Solingen, as well as a link to the railway line Dusseldorf -Derendorf - Dortmund Süd and railway Wuppertal- Wichlinghausen - Hattingen.
For a long time Wuppertal- Barmen also an important freight depot. The last freight tracks were removed in 2006, however, on the grounds of a hardware store was built.
Current situation
All trains of the Long-distance passenger traffic drive through only. However, it keep going all through the valley commuter trains. The Wupper - Express, the Rhine -Münster -Express and the Maas- Wupper - Express operate the station every hour. The lines S 7 and S 8 come in twenty -minute intervals over the local tracks and connect the station with Hagen, Mönchengladbach, Remscheid and the Wuppertal Hauptbahnhof.

Wuppertal- Barmen is also an important junction between the rails and the city traffic. The monorail here has its eastern terminus, there is also a bus station, which is served by many lines of Wuppertal Stadtwerke and the transport company Ennepe -Ruhr.

Platforms
