Würenlos

Würenlos (Swiss German: ʋʏrə ˌ lo ː s ) is a municipality in the district of Baden in the canton of Aargau. It lies north of the Limmat River in Furttal to the border with the Canton of Zurich.

Geography

The village lies in a flat, broad plain south of the Gmeumeriwaldes (516 m above sea level. M. ), a hill like a barrier between Furttal and Limmat pushes. To the southeast, the Bick collected ( 562 m above sea level. M. ). Towards the south, the terrain drops steeply to the river Limmat from back. The Furtenbach forms a deeply carved ravines before southwest of the village empties into the river. North of the Gmeumeriwaldes rises the Greppe ( 569 m above sea level. East of Würenlos lie on Furtenbach the formerly independent village Kempfhof and Ötlikon, the former has grown together with the main settlement. Neighboring municipalities are Wettingen the west and north, Otelfingen in the northeast, Hüttikon in the east, Oetwil am in the southeast, and Spreitenbach Kill cheeks in the south and Neuenhof the southwest.

History

Finds that the area of Würenlos was inhabited during the Neolithic and the Bronze Age. The Roman road from Vindonissa ( Windisch ) about Vitudurum (Upper Winterthur) by Brigantium ( Bregenz) led by the later municipality. The Romans exploited here from a quarry with stomachs Wiler limestone; next groove residues, there are also circular recesses for the production of millstones. The first documented mention of Wirchilleozha was 870 in a deed of gift of the lord Landeloh.
