Wurzelpeter

Wurzelpeter is a herb of the Berlin bear Seal GmbH. It was developed by a pharmacist in the 19th century and is industrially produced since 1949. The spirit contains, among other things, roots, bark, herbs and spices. 2009 produced 1.3 million liters. The name refers to a small goblin who according to legend haunts the forest and is practical jokes and pranks.

History

1875 developed the Berlin chemist Paul Pöschke a potion that should include the force from the woods and roots and was initially administered as a remedy.

From 1949 Wurzelpeter was produced industrially, first by the company Kahlbaum and later by the former VEB BärenSiegel Berlin in Berlin- Adlershof, Glienicker way. In the GDR Wurzelpeter belonged to the so-called Bückware that was available locally scarce or only through barter. Among connoisseurs was Wurzelpeter as East German counterpart for Jägermeister. The procurement of raw materials such as alcohol, herb and spice extracts or consumables such as bottles, labels and cardboard boxes were one of the main problems with which the company had to fight.

After the turn, the product was on the verge of collapse. In 1990, the wine company Franz Wilhelm Langguth Erben the company Berlin bear Seal and produced the popular liqueur in a new location in Berlin- Lichtenberg with a slightly different spelling Wurzelpeter continue.

Alcohol and sugar content of root Peter were adapted to the changing tastes of consumers. In GDR times, the liquor contained 40 % alcohol ( currently 30%), the proportion of herb and spice extracts was increased.

Offers

The herb, which with the saying " Sooner or later everyone drinking a root Peter" was advertised and there in various filling volumes: mini bottles of 0.1 liters, as a hip flask with 0.2 l, 0.5 l or than 0.7 l standard bottle. Moreover, in addition to the proven herbal concoctions in 2004 the flavor bitter orange was brought onto the market. Wurzelpeter was awarded in 2005 at an International Spirits Competition, each with a gold and silver medal. From the internationally famous designer Luigi Colani, the company had a beer truck in 1:87 scale make, which is sold with a vial Wurzelpeter.
