Some of them are still very well preserved. Coin finds prove that already in Roman times people have lived in the church today Wutach. Due to the migration of peoples and the Germanic land acquisition, Alemanni settled. The name of the place Ewattingen first appears in writing by mentioning Ekipetingum in a donation Gotzbergs to the monastery of St. Gallen in May 816 under the rule of Count Erchanger. The notation then changed often, so also the names Ebgetingen or Egbotingen have survived among others.

By the end of World War II Wutach was purely rural structured. However, as early as the 19th century, agriculture was no longer able to supply all the inhabitants sufficient to set up a veritable exodus of residents. Many emigrated to America. A larger wave of migration set after a fire in 1875. Numerous city refugees found after their livelihood in the nascent industry.

This development was briefly an end with the beginning of World War II. This was also due to the re-establishment of so-called Zuerwerbsbetrieben in the church today Wutach and of smaller factories in the immediate vicinity. Immediately after the Second World War the town was little benefit from emergent tourism. Over the decades, however, this changed fundamentally.
