WWOOF

World-Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms (also known as Willing Workers on Organic Farms in short, WWOOF ) is an organization that provides volunteers for organic farms.

The organization was founded in 1971 in England by Sue Coppard under the name Working Weekends on Organic Farms, then renamed as Willing Workers on Organic Farms, and finally in 2000 the World-Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms.

Volunteers, which are mediated by WWOOF, receive no financial compensation for their work, but only food and accommodation of the respective farm owners ( " free board and lodging "). These volunteers are mostly participants of the Working Holiday Program.

A total of more than 6,000 organic farms in 100 countries participate in the program. Currently, 53 countries have a national WWOOF organization, including Germany, and in Germany are 290 farms in the organization connected (February 2013).
