Wyborowa

Wyborowa ( adj. lit. Selected from Pol. Wybór for selection) or Wódka Wyborowa is a Polish vodka brand. It is considered the oldest internationally traded vodka brand in the world.

The production of vodka brand began in 1823 in a distillery in Poznan, Poland, which was in the possession of the Jewish businessman Hartwig Kantorowicz. Initially, only the adjective Wyborowa was chosen as the brand name. Later, the word was vodka ( pln for vodka) supplemented and today's brand name was created. By 1873, only the Polish domestic market has been served, but exports from 1873 also in other European countries. 1927 Wódka Wyborowa was the first international brand of vodka.

In the 1950s and 1960s Wódka Wyborowa conquered all major European markets, and included, for example, in the UK over 60 % of all vodka imports. During the political upheaval in the late 1980s and early 1990s, and the associated economic change was the responsible Poznań distillery, like many other Polish companies, serious economic difficulties and was near bankruptcy. However, the distillery due to its international reputation manufacturing the French wine and spirits group Pernod Ricard has been bought.

Wódka Wyborowa is traditionally delivered in 0.7 -liter bottles with an alcohol content of just 40%.
