Wydad Casablanca

Wydad AC Casablanca, often known by the acronym WAC, is a Moroccan sports club based in Casablanca, who is primarily known for its football team, which plays in the GNF 1.

History

The club was founded on May 8, 1937 as a swimming club. A year later, the offer was extended to tennis, 1939, the football department was created.

About the background of the name Wydad there are several versions. The most common version is based on the meaning of the word in Arabic: There is, Wydad is love. In a chronicle of the club is told by an anecdote: In one of the meetings of the founding committee of the members had appeared too late, as he had previously saw at the cinema a film of Egyptian singer and actress Umm Kulthum entitled Wydad.
