Wyoming County (West Virginia)

Wyoming County is a county located in the state of West Virginia in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Pineville.

Geography

The County is located in southern West Virginia and has an area of 1300 square kilometers, of which two square miles are water. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Boone County, Raleigh County, Mercer County, McDowell County, Mingo County and Logan County.

History

Wyoming County was formed on January 26, 1850 from parts of Logan County. It was named after an American Indian expression.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Wyoming County 25 709 people in 10,454 households and 7,704 families. The population density was 20 people per square kilometer.
