Xandros

Xandros is a company that produced a same name, based on Debian, Linux distribution. The name Xandros is derived from the term " X Window System " and the Greek island " Andros ".

History

Xandros was founded in 2001 and is headquartered in New York and Ottawa, Ontario. Xandros bought Corel Linux and developed it further, after Corel had abandoned its Linux business in August 2001 and left the distribution market.

Andreas Typaldos is Chief Executive Officer of Xandros. The co-founder and Chairman of Xandros, Dr. Frederick H. Berenstein, died on 6 September 2005.

Xandros is a founding member of the DCC Alliance and since 2006 a member of the OSDL, where it is particularly involved in the desktop Working Group ( DTL ). After Xandros, Novell has signed a cooperation agreement with Microsoft in 2007. On 30 June 2008, the former Linspire CEO Kevin Carmony announced the sale to Xandros in his blog.

Xandros Desktop
