Xanthoma

Xanthomas are harmless in itself, orange - yellowish, shimmering, knot - up plaque-like fatty deposits in the skin. You are localized accumulations of macrophages that have stored en masse fats and transform into foam cells. Xanthomas are caused by disorders of lipid metabolism, mainly when cholesterol levels.

The most important representative of xanthomas is the xanthelasma palpebrarum, which is located around the eyes, especially on their upper eyelids.

Therapy

Xanthomas are removed surgically or with laser locally. In the foreground, however, the treatment of the underlying lipid disorders should be, which may be responsible for more serious disorders, such as the development of atherosclerosis. Occasionally it comes to reducing high blood fats also to regression of xanthomas.
