Xaver Kurmann

Xaver Kurmann ( born August 29, 1948 in Emmen Bridge ) is a retired Swiss cyclist.

Xaver Kurmann was from the late 1960s to the mid-1970s one of the most successful Swiss cyclist on the road as well as in various disciplines on the track. He was in 1968 in Montevideo, vice-world champion on the track in the individual pursuit of amateurs; In the same year he won the bronze medal in the same discipline at the Olympic Games in Mexico City. The following year he became world champion in the pursuit, and third in the team time trial in Brno ( with Josef Hubschmid, Josef Fuchs and Walter Bürki ). Kurmann also won the Swiss road championship in the amateurs this year. Eight times he was 1967-1974 Swiss champion in the pursuit.

In 1970, Xavier Kurmann for the second time world champion in the individual pursuit, also Swiss champion in the points race. In 1972 he won at the Olympic Games in Munich, the silver medal in the pursuit and was again Swiss national road champion. He also won the road race Giro del Mendrisio. In 1974, he rounded out his career with another national title from in the points race.

Honors

1969 Xavier Kurmann was chosen together with Bürki, Hubschmid and Fox after her third place finish at the World Cup road for Swiss Team of the Year.
