Xaver Unsinn

Xaver nonsense ( born November 29, 1929 in Fussen, Bavaria, † January 4, 2012 ) was a German ice hockey player and coach.

It was in 1964 at the Olympic Games and later from 1975 to 1977 and from 1982 to 1990 Hockey Head Coach. He was inducted into the IIHF Hall of Fame and the Hockey Hall of Fame Germany.

Career as a player

Before embarking on a career as Xaver nonsense hockey player, he held a variety of sports such as tennis, ski jumping and football. Nonsense played from 1946 to 1960 when EV Füssen, with the striker won eight championships. From 1956 to 1959 he served as the team captain. From 1960 to 1962 he was with the ESV Kaufbeuren player-coach.

International, he completed 72 matches in which he scored 24 goals. He took part in the A World Championships in 1952, 1953, 1954, 1959 and 1960 as well as in the Olympic Games in 1952 and 1960. His greatest success with the national team was winning the 1953 Vice World Championships.

Career as a coach

With the coach Xaver nonsense called Mister Eishockei, won in 1976 the DEB - national team of West Germany at the Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck, the bronze medal, after he had been in 1964 at the Olympic Games together with Markus Egen and Engelbert Holderied Hockey Head Coach. 1977 ended his engagement for the time being after the DEB - selection had completed an unsatisfying tournament. In 1981 he stood again for the DEB - national behind the gang. After a few good tournaments - 1984 and 1988, the West German team ended at the Olympic Winter Games in fifth place - Xaver nonsense had to retire in 1990 for health reasons from the office of the national coach of the German national team. As the successor to Mike Nash was hired, so that nonsense got a new contract.

In 1996, nonsense for his contributions to the sport of ice hockey in the Federal Republic, the Federal Cross of Merit. In 1998 he was honored with induction into the IIHF Hall of Fame in the category of functionary. 2003, the Bavarian sports award, he was awarded in the category " Sporting Life works".

On January 4, 2012 Xavier nonsense passed the age of 82 in Fussen.
