Xavier Becerra

Xavier Becerra ( born January 26, 1958 in Sacramento, California) is an American legal scholar, politician of the Democratic Party and, since 1993 member of the U.S. House of Representatives for California.

Biography

After visiting the McClatchy High School in Sacramento, he studied from 1976 to 1980 initially economics at Stanford University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (BA Economics) from. A subsequent post-graduate studies in law at the Law School of Stanford University, and at times at the University of Salamanca in Spain, he finished in 1984 with a Juris Doctor ( JD). Following this he took after his admission to a career as a lawyer before he became an employee in 1986 on the staff of California State Senator Arthur Torres. Subsequently, he was between 1987 and 1990 Deputy Attorney General of California ( Deputy Attorney General ).

His political career began in 1990 with the election to the House of Representatives from California (California State Assembly ), where he served until 1992.

1992 Becerra was finally chosen for the Democrats for the first time as a delegate to the U.S. House of Representatives; there he takes after eight elections since January 3, 1993 30 or January 3, 2003 31 Congressional District of California. Becerrra, who also represents the interests of Hispanics because of his background, since 2009, within the leadership of the majority party Democratic Caucus Vice Chairman and thus occupies the fourth rank in this leadership.
