Xavier de Villepin

Galouzeau Xavier de Villepin ( born March 14, 1926 in Brussels), also known as Xavier de Villepin, is a former French politician. He was high-ranking civil servant for 18 years French senator for the center party UDF or the right UMP party. He is the father of former Prime Minister of France, Dominique de Villepin.

Biography

Xavier de Villepin is a graduate of the prestigious French elite high school École des Hautes Études Commerciales ( HEC), and later the Harvard Business School. During World War II he had in 1944 in the Resistance, the French Resistance against the German occupation, engaged. As a French civil servant, he spent many years abroad. From 1950 to 1979, he served successively in French Algeria, Australia, in the French protectorate of Morocco, Venezuela and the United States. In 1960 he became a member of the Union des Français de l' étranger ( " Association of French expatriates " ) and 1979 second vice president of this association.

In 1986, de Villepin member of the French Senate for the people living outside France French, 1993 Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and the armed forces. 2002, after the nomination of his son Dominique de Villepin for the post of foreign minister, he took this office. In 2004, Xavier de Villepin applied not to issue a new mandate as a Senator.
