Xavier Sala-i-Martin

Xavier Sala i Martín, also known as Xavier Sala -i - Martín ( born June 17, 1962 in Cabrera de Mar ) is a Spanish economist, university professor and sports official.

Career, teaching and research

Sala i Martín earned his degree in economics in 1985 at the Autonomous University of Barcelona in 1987 and made his Master of Arts degree from Harvard University. Then he made up his Ph.D. in 1990 at Harvard.

In 1990, Sala i Martín as an Assistant Professor at Yale University. Three years later he was promoted to associate professor. In parallel, he pursued from 1994, a visiting professor at the Spanish university Pompeu Fabra, which he maintained until 2005. In 1996 he moved to Columbia University.

Sala i Martín's focus is in the field of macroeconomics. Mainly he publishes on topics related to economic growth, where it represents an endogenous growth theory. In particular, the development of Africa as well as monetary and social policy are emphasized. Since 2004 he has been editor of the Global Competitiveness Report of the World Economic Forum.

Between 1993 and 2004, Sala -i - Martín worked as a consultant for both the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. From 2004 he worked for FC Barcelona as head of the Economic Council. As for legal reasons in June 2006, the Bureau of Joan Laporta had to resign, he took over the leadership of a statutory Commission, who led the club until new elections in the fall.
