Xavier Tondo
Xavier Tondo Volpini ( born November 5, 1978 in Valls, † 23 May, 2011 Pradollano, Sierra Nevada) was a Spanish cyclist.
Career
Xavier Tondo began his career in 2003 at the Spanish cycling team Paternina -Costa de Almeria. In 2004 he moved to Barbot - Gaia and a year later to Catalunya - Angel Mir. The end of May, he won a stage of the Tour of Alentejo and so could the Appreciation decide for themselves. Two weeks later, he was fifth in the Subida al Naranco and won a stage of the Tour of Asturias. Since 2006 he drove for the Spanish Professional Continental team Relax- GAM, from the 2007 season for the Portuguese team LA MSS Milaneza. In 2009 he drove in the team Andalucía - Cajasur, 2010 at the Cervélo TestTeam. In 2011 he joined the Movistar team.
On 23 May 2011 Tondo died in Pradollano in the Sierra Nevada, where he was preparing for the Tour de France, as a result of an accident in which he was crushed by his car while closing a garage door.
